I see "Wild Rose" was on the hythe run this morning, although Great Expectations is back on the run now. What has happened to the Hotspur?

Re: Hythe Ferry

Think she's on land at Saxon Wharf, it's that time of year.

Taking a bit longer than usual though

Actually, speaking of the Hythe Ferry,

anyone know when the new berth in town is likely to start being used by the ferry? been operational for a while now, but hythe still shares with the red jets.

Re: Hythe Ferry

Last reason I heard why they were not using it was due to 'elf and safety - the ramp is too steep at low water/

The ferry ramp or the pontoon ramp?

If it's the pontoon ramp, don't quite understand that, seeing the ramp at the pier at all sorts of angles!

Last I heard was that it was a money/paperwork issue on Hythe Ferries behalf.

That wouldn't surprise me either! WHF wont spend a penny if they could get away with it.

Pontoon ramp.

That's silly, they've never had a problem with the steepness at Hythe.

Re: Hythe Ferry

Does it normally take 6 weeks for the ferries to be away?

How many Hythe ferries are there. Surely keeping 3 is OTT?

Wild Rose, who owns her? Do they normally run both Hotspur and GE at peak?

Hurst Castle Ferries.

No, they don't often use the Hotspur, often ferries are cancelled before they use her.

Re: Hythe Ferry

I noticed that the Wild rose has done the early trips the last two days with great ex coming in later on.

I know hotspur requires 4 crew, great ex 3, and wild rose I imagine requires 2. I also imagine the running costs are similarly reduced for wild rose as well.

Given the difficulties of funding do you think the future lies in a smaller vessel?

Hotspur is at Saxon wharf, there was work going on so it is not like she is in layup....

It's something that has crossed my mind, but I don't think I could bear it if they took the Hotspur away, the last 6/7 weeks has been bad enough without her!

Re: Hythe Ferry

When I was there, GreatEx normally ran with 2 crew and 3 crew at peak (to handle 80ish plus pax). Hotspur 4 was always crewed by 3.

Re: Hythe Ferry

See the Great Ex. has had a second major breakdown in 2days ... Wild Rose has been covering, which ain't ideal.

Where's the Hotspur when you need her, eh? ;)

Anyone got any further updates on the Hotspur's situation? It can't be looking good, surely?

Re: Hythe Ferry

Would the Hythe Ferry company be interested in Gosport/Portsmouth Queens as when the new Gosport Ferry arrives I would not be surprised if both if these are sold and I would think they are just whats needed, reliable passenger floating bridges.

Didn't they have one before, but it was deemed to expensive to run? I think this is going back to the 80s/90s now.
