  1. DFDS have sold out every Rosslare - Dunkerque sailing to date, according to an article in The Guardian. The article is about the reduction in demand for the land bridge; it adds little to what most on this forum will already be familiar with. It does though suggest considerable concern for jobs at Holyhead. Nigel Wannacott is this evening quoted on BF's holiday bookings for this summer : Brittany Ferries head of communications, Nigel Wanncott, said new bookings for summer 2021 are already 50% down on pre-Covid years, and those who have booked in advance are starting to cancel. “We’ve already written off spring. Now people who have booked for summer are beginning to wobble – it’s not an exodus yet but we are worried.   3. Channel 4 News had a substantial and striking report tonight on loss of traffic at Holyhead. In particular they highlighted that the Welsh administration is getting involved and spoke of traffic diverting to routes to Northern Ireland instead of Dublin. Stena Estrid was shown, nearly empty. The report was nearly 45 minutes into the programme (which is on Channel 4 +1 now, if you are really quick).

  5. First I must clarify: my memory is of a suggestion that they could not be bothered as opposed to specifically saying it. I have not readily been able to locate it. If the injustice has grown while bottled in my memory I apologise. I wanted to avoid either inflaming or personalising things so held back from replying at the time; the situation was very difficult for lots of people. In that spirit I will do my best to point you in the right direction, but by pm rather than publicly. My positive point about customer service stands.
  6. I am pleased to report proactive contact from BF Customer Services in recent days. The revised timetable issued last week removed both of the sailings we were booked on [into Le Havre and Poole]. As they are part of a BF Holiday booking I was hopeful of the outcome. Sure enough they phoned last Thursday morning to propose alternatives [Caen]. I accepted those but said that we would still prefer to return from Cherbourg. I was promised a call as soon as the Cherbourg sailings were available for booking. That call came this morning and the switch made. The person dealing with me w
  7. Jonno, were the sailings booked as one return booking, or as two separate one way bookings? The lack of realisation certainly smacks of computers, or under trained staff.

  9. Regretably not, though that might change in future. The studio have replied to an enquiry from my brother, explaining that they put the images online simply for general interest. They are now looking into how they might make them available for sale in future. If anything comes of it I'll post the information here.

Last summer I seem to remember discussion on here about PA being delayed, often by diversions to give assistance to other vessels, and having difficulty in catching back up with her schedule between Sundays and Thursdays (i.e. while sailing to/from Santander). That seemed to occur quite a few weeks in mid summer. Wouldn't lack of one engine compound the difficulties, or was she holding off from full power and just taking a measured approach to making up the lost time?
  11. We enjoyed a very peaceful night on Bretagne's deck 2 when we had a cabin there a couple of years ago, despite it being a Friday evening in peak season. I was almost disappointed by the lack of marine diesel rumblings. I enjoy these as holiday lullaby. When LNG takes over I'll miss them, though I imagine that I am in a minority on that one.
  12. You can look forward to the Quic en Groin, Neil. My partner and I fondly remember our night there a couple of years ago. Small, family run, very fine shower and an indulgent breakfast buffet in a conservatory. It is well placed for a stroll to Plage de Bons Secours. I was glad of a space in their garage, conscious of having a conspicuously full car at the end of two weeks camping, but book this in advance, limited spaces. Hope you have as good a time as we did.   13. Thanks Cabin Boy for the excellent photos and account. Evocative of fond memories of two weeks on Belle Ile last summer. We enjoyed a relaxed drive cross country (SW) several hours from St. Malo. I imagine that the Quiberon peninsula could be slow at peak times, but the ferry was fun as CB describes. The island lends itself to cycling, flattish apart from the steep sided valleys leading down to the ports and beaches on the north and east. It totals perhaps 15 km x 8 km with enough beaches for a whole summer. There are plenty of bike hire places in La Palais, enough to find an ele
  14. Dieppe, passing through the channel into the inner harbour, to berth alongside the quay that is now lined with restaurant terraces. Now seems so unlikely. An even more remote memory: Princes Dock, berthing directly in front of the Liver Building on the overnight ferry from Belfast. I think I have a bias toward breakfast time arrivals. The present day favourite that I can look forward to seeing again is, for me, St Malo.
  15. In answering boallen's original question it might help to distinguish between mobile and desktop operating systems. On iPad £3.99 for Marine Traffic might be well worth it as I find the (free) website seriously slow and cumbersome. On Mac i.e. desktop I find that the website works well and is free (thankfully, as the cheapest subscription is $12.50 per month!) It looks like pricing is the same for Android / Windows environments and I imagine the user experience is at least intended to be similar.
