  1. I think BF have just pressed the "refund them" button. This virus hurts all of us including BF. They give me a voucher then pull the service to save them money, but could cost me a lot more (changed routes etc). Its not just a voucher for the money I've not lost, Its me accepting that I have faith that BF will still be around for 12 months at least. So, lets start again BF. "We would prefer that you accept a voucher valid for 18months. In that way you will be supporting us through this difficult time. I means a lot to our company and our staff. Thank you" The savvy customer will want the cash back. So will the not so well off. Think about it? Stu
  2. That bookings are down is a fact BUT really, profit and loss relies on income in and costs to get to cover that. Demand, pricing and currency and the cost of debts etc. influence that. Then there is the value of their assets. Is something worth what a new one would cost, worth what its present/future monetary value is, worth x amount on what returns it makes, its scrap value or even a value based of earning revenue etc. Mix all this into an accountants pot and they will tell you all is fine or not depending on what they want as a result to be made public or kept confidential. Its in times like this that confidence is needed. The opposite will only pull things down. Toodle pip Stu
  3. Talking of "Chariot" tokens, did you know that Intermarche will give you a plastic token if you ask at the info desk. Its free as well. Don't tell Greta its plastic though! It fits most of the others like Leclerc. I'm off now Toddle pip
  4. Big change for me next year. Instead of booking 6 returns (and paying any amendment fees if I change) I have opted for 4 flexi outbounds and only 1 booked return. I'm hoping that this will give me greater flexibility and considerable savings on picking up any discount bargains on return economy ticket crossings without any deposit being paid. I also will stay longer in France to avoid at least 2 extra crossings as I normally do, just to go home and cut the grass! At years end I shall see if I saved anything on my annual spend. I believe I can do it. Thanks BF.😎 Stu
  5. Do Club members get a further discount and does it apply to one way tickets? Happy new year Stu
  6. Not unusual to most of the internet I'm afraid, just instant junk thrown at us. Ordered some cream(oh Matron!) off an inline chemist. Got 3 mails showing the stages of picking, packing and sending, 2 more mails from RMail telling me that the package will be with them soon, then showed me my signature on delivery. 5 mails! The world is mad. Saw a feedback that was cut and pasted straight from the manufacturers description, rather more of a sales pitch. BF are just following the herd. Feedback is largely all tosh. Just bin it or give them feedback on feedback. Stu
  7. I remember doing the very same thing years ago and got a cracking good deal with Caravan and Dog Club. Came to cancel it, boy was I clobbered. Admin plus cancellation fee £70. I never saw that coming and that was over 10 years ago. Suggest you read the CC deal T &Cs. I may be wrong or it may have changed now. Stu
  8. Thanks all. I have the tickets on the laptop desktop (MSoft) so that loads without wifi. I also have a small usb stick in the car with lots of info to call up if stuck. Just the thought of passing a laptop, even a small one through the car passenger window to a small checkin booth window. The rain only makes it less enjoyable! Stu
  9. Sometimes I don't have access to a printer when booking. I also don't have a mobile that can show emails. Would it be accepted to check in just by quoting the booking refence number? Or do I have to dig out my laptop and show the email? Any ideas please. Stu
  10. Awake at 4am having a cuppa and a thought came into my head. No, not the naughty stuff, I've just come out of that dream. Now calmed down after a good rest maybe try to book me thinks. Steady nerves, deep breath and away we go. No losing my nerve now. Click away very slowly allowing a few seconds or two for the old BF 'puter to react at each click. Steady man, nearly rushed it once or twice. Slowly, slowly does it (like accessing the Deepartment of Deeefence as they say) Come to pay, will it shut me down? Hands sweaty. NO, I'VE ONLY GONE AND DUN IT. I HAVE A TICKET HOUSTON. Stu
  11. I tried Ply-Ros for early August. After a few moments all "sailings full" appeared. Then they were showing prices! I then just got right through to click pay for 2 different tickets and up came another gotcher- start again. I'll see what appears in my inbox tomorrow. Depressed. Stu
  12. Oh no! I've been locked out- we encounter problems. please try later. Maximum number of sessions per origin IP reached. (65) I may have clicked 65 times but not 65 separate sessions for Gods sake. I did manage one ticket but that slipped through the system until I realised I had an email with a ticket attached. The web page crashed on payment. I don't care how many times my IP address has been used. All I want is another ticket not some moronic computer telling me to go away. Keep that cr*p to yourselves BF. SFD
  13. Slowly giving up on BF website. AWFUL,AWFUL!
  14. Got a ticket!!!. It crashed after "pay now" bit but there it was-in my inbox. Off to get my life back! Only 3 crashes but the back arrow seemed to settle it down a bit.
  15. Already thinking how to avoid these extra "fees". Having a place to stay in France, my first thoughts are to do one less round trip next year to keep my travel costs in check. They lose me for one trip! I lose nothing. Always book one way tickets to avoid amendment fees on the return. That will save me a couple of hundred pounds after my final op in hospital is done. They lose again, I lose nothing. I must say that with the UK economy and sterling struggling to lift above the Wrexit fiasco it does seem an odd move to hit the British traveller who make up a large percentage of BF business with this move. We shall see. I do love the spin that has been put on all this in their newsletter. Its just another business, no better or worse than others. Stu
  16. Despite the warning on BF website to use the A386 up to the A38 due to the advertised roadworks we decided on arriving at 8.10pm sailing on Saturday that we would try our old route via the Barbican area -Embankment to Marsh Mills roundabout onto the east bound A38. No delays and easy peasy!
  17. Thanks every one. I will now book both legs as one way tickets for the 2020 season. Great help. Thanks again. Stu
  18. Waiting for the 2020 timetables to be released and I wondered if anyone has experience of booking one way outbound tickets and then booking the inbound ticket later in holiday/visit. Thing is, this year has seen a few changes to my inbound dates due to hospital visits/ relative in a home etc and BF have always been able to sort me out with a revised crossing back home on my return ticket. Anyone have any idea of the cost difference between a Return and a One Way ticket both ways? Also have any problems been encountered by just not being able to get on board or even get a cabin? For me a One Way ticket might avoid the amendment fee as well and give greater flexibility. Thanks Stu
  19. UK BF website saying "mid October" date for release of 2020 summer timetables. French BF website says "16th October". Nice to have an actual date published somewhere! Stu
  20. Why not? It is the low season coming up after all. My point was that that there could be rich pickings to be made from HMGs position in providing a system to cover movement of goods over the leaving period whenever that comes.
  21. I could see this as an opportunity for BF to be involved in a way acting as an agent to another carrier. This would allow another company to provide the ship and crew and BF provides all the handling and services at port. In fact they could then schedule activity when berths are free of BF ships. In away its win/win for BF if it can sweeten its passengers, say with reduced fares etc. Even crewing the ships come to mind! It may be that this "extra" work will be short lived anyway. No risk to BF. Bye Stu
  22. Used to beat that system with TUI when called Thomsons airline. When being checked in by agency staff I asked specifically to not be given a seat next to my wife! Agent seemed perplexed until I said I always am allocated a seat away from my wife as that's what you will do anyway. Just saving you the bother of telling me I cant sit with her. It worked every time. Result -wife sitting beside me! Its like the time Squeassy Jet didn't allocate seats. We used the rear door and grabbed a 3 seat row and put a bag on the middle seat explaining to any inquires that the guy was in the toilet and the seat was taken. Worked every time on light loads. Toddle pip
  23. Chin up matey. I fully understand. I'm also a pensioner but I look at it this way. We have far lower costs and increases to contend compared to working folks. Think of all the things we enjoy as free in our old age society plus time to shop for food bargains etc plus a cost of living index that doesn't relate to us as we are low level consumers of most things (except energy to heat ourselves of course!) The basket of goods that fill our economic model just make me chuckle as I often have no idea what they are talking about! We have so many advantages over other folk who sadly pay inflated prices in the summer season and in a way make things cheaper for us. Does't make it right but that's the economic model that exists. Don't give up your French Adventure. Stu
  24. Just a thought or two. Does anyone think that BF will delay or even radically modify the upcoming summer timetables to accommodate the shenanigans of Wrexit after 1st Nov? Anyone got bets of how few passengers will travel on the 1st just in case they are turned around after arriving in Euroland? Already have had to renew wifes valid passport as it will not meet entry requirements according to Goves advice on the UKGov website. Can't wait (not) Stu
  25. "Easy peasy! A few days ago we did just that at Ply only to find no one was on the car deck and the ship was not finally docked. Beat everyone!! " Forgot to mention--. My dear wife was so embarrassed at getting to the car before being officially permitted to that she tried to hide under a coat in in the car in case she had to "walk the plank" in shame.
