  1. Have heard that two companies are interested in her DFDS and more recently POL Ferries.
  2. See this afternoon that repair to Island Flyer achieved in 3 days instead of the original 2 weeks prediction, both now in operation.
  3. Information received from Tony Weaver that originally 1/3rd of her plywood cargo was to be unloaded at Pompey the rest at Tilbury. This has recently been change however and the whole cargo is to be unloaded at Portsmouth.
  4. Has anyone any knowledge what above ship is doing at Portsmouth Docks. It arrived about a month ago unloaded its cargo and since then it has been in harbour for a couple of days then back out to anchorage off Bembridge. Latest departure was this afternoon escorted by the 2 commercial port tugs.
  5. Seems to be unavailable today, hope it is just a temporary issue.
  6. VOW was running yesterday afternoon and has been all day today, currently on its way to the IOW.

Nothing wrong with the Gosport Ferry more than adequate for the 3-4 minute crossing across the harbour, only gripe is the cost,but as they say its "cheaper by water" as does save the 20 mile road nightmare round to Pompey having first battled on the A32 out of Gosport (Turk Town" to get to Fareham.
  8. Both St Clare and VOW have been in operation all morning and have just watched ST C depart through HMS Warrior web cam.
  9. Presume VOW will be off for annual docking /survey as St Clare is now back in service.
  10. Any updates / photographs on how refit of Pont-Aven is progressing.
  11. Agree entirely with last post, the new engine would have undergone full bench testing to ensure performance parameters were achieved prior to it leaving the manufacturers. Ideally they would want it to be shipped as complete as possible ie with cylinder heads fitted but all depends on size of opening. In any case engine manufacture would be in attendance whilst the replacement takes place and subsequent initial testing insitu.
  12. Not quite all my post of last Thursday did say the hole in the side was probably the easiest route.😉
  13. I would imagine it depends on the configuration of the engines ie 2 per shaft , one inboard one outboard, and if the defective one is the outboard engine then the quickest route would be hole in the side of the ship and straight out.
  14. Early this morning on Radio Solent travel updates said Wight link ferry reduced service between Pompey and Fishbourne due to staff sickness.

Sincerely hope the company make a better job of time keeping that they have achieved demolishing a Railway bridge and rebuilding to new design (saving the odd Double Decker from converting to an open topper) at Alton on the Watercress (Mid Hants Line). Company took possession in January and scheduled finish was early August, we are still awaiting hand over, it has certainly screwed up the season with only being able to run from Alresford to Medstead.
  16. Any update please as to when St Clare goes to Cherbourg, only "next week" is almost up and she is still here.
  17. Sorry I failed miserably in that I did not look at the posts you referred to. I was thinking back to when I was in the Design office in Pompey Dockyard and we had to remove defective machinery form Grey Line Cruises (Naval Ships), some had designated shipping routes whilst others required large holes in the ships's side. I think as time progresses it will certainly be interesting to find out the method used.

Is your figure of 8 weeks to remove and replace the defective engine, assuming the inspection confirms this is the most cost effective action, via a dedicated shipping route ie up through the decks by removal of portable plates or suitable size hole in her side with all the issues of removing cables and services as necessary.
  19. Spoke too soon now done a 360 degree turn and berthing at Gunwharf.
  20. St Faith seems on seem to be doing strange things this morning, have watched it sail up the harbour, have a look at PIP and now has sailed straight out of the harbour as if it is on passage to the IOW. Any ideas Tony.

  22. Notice Baie de Seine is on passage to Spain but for some reason it has not been added to the fleet list since returning from refit. Someone in Brittan Towers forgot ?.
  23. Interesting about Wight Sun Tony, and I note she is currently on her way to Fishbourne but I thought they were currently limited to wind speed after the recent fires. Today it must be a bit lumpy even in the Solent.
