  1. Yes I would too. Despite her faults Bretagne still remains my favourite bf ship. Happy birthday old girl
  2. Happy Christmas to all and best wishes for the New Year
  3. No I remember them on board Prince of Brittany in the 80's and having to go see them before disembarking in Portsmouth, it did speed up the process
  4. I remember travelling on the day sailing from Portsmouth to St. Malo on the old Armorique. If I remember rightly sailing was 07:30 from Portsmouth with a 17:00 arrival in St. Malo although this often changed due to the tides.

    New Look Revealed

I take back what I previously said, now I have seen it actually applied to a ship it does look a lot better and I actually quite like it now.
  6. Having just returned from a trip on Bretagne, I have no complaints over the price of the food in the restaurant. The only issue I have is the fact that I find it very difficult not to over-eat from the buffet as I want to try it all. Self discipline needed me thinks.

    New Look Revealed

I agree, the font does look a bit odd especially on the a and e
  8. I booked as a normal round trip but I could have booked a Gourmet Cruise which would include lunch in 1 of 3 restaurants in St Malo
  9. I booked a mini cruise to St. Malo on Bretagne, leaving Portsmouth Friday evening and back from St. Malo on Saturday evening. I did also book a commodore cabin on deck 6 both ways. Boarding commenced at 18:15 and there were quite a lot of foot passengers, luckily I wasn't one the security picked on and was on board by 18:30. Greeted by a very friendly staff member who booked my table in Les Abers and also took my breakfast order - I opted for the Continental in cabin breakfast. Cabin 6106 was more than adequate with the basket of fruit and box of macaroons a nice touch. Although the cabin was showing signs of its age with some wear and tear it was clean and comfortable. Dinner was excellent in Les Abers- plenty of Langoustines on the buffet and the Salmon with Lemon and Vegetable Tagine was perfect. Bretagne sailed on time under the command of Captain Grimaud; following a walk on the decks post dinner I decided to retire for the night. There was very little movement and I had a good night's sleep. Breakfast the following morning was more than enough to set me up for the day. The day dawned misty and grey and St. Malo was very quiet for the first hour or so and with the mist it had a bit of an eerie feel to it, but this soon went as it got busier. It wasn't cold so I had a long walk around the ramparts. I had Mussels for lunch at Café De L'ouest and they were excellent, can recommend this restaurant. After lunch I took the bus to the Carrefour hypermarket where I stocked up on some items and even purchased a few Christmas presents. It was then time to return to Bretagne. Again early boarding at 18:00, same crew for the return. For some reason I wasn't allocated the same cabin both ways as others had so for my return I was in 6300 and found this to be the same state as 6106 except for a very noisy air conditioner but as long as I didn't want cold air it was ok. I had dinner again in Les Abers but this time I had the Lamb which was cooked to perfection. I went to the cinema (A star is born) before retiring for the night. Same for breakfast Sunday morning although I was offered the choice of a cooked breakfast I declined . Arrival in Portsmouth on Sunday was on time. All in All a very good weekend and yes Bretagne is looking her age but there is still plenty of life in the old girl. I was struck by a thought - when she is eventually replaced would there be any mileage in retaining her and operating extra crossings to St. Malo during the summer weekends - so there would be a day and night crossing each way.
  10. Am on Bretagne Friday 16th to St. Malo, returning on Saturday 16th. Early boarding both ways. Looking forward to dinner in Les Abers
  11. The rules should be the same for everyone, everyone should only be allowed to fish at the same time. I can appreciate how this makes the French angry but they should air this appropriately and not take the action they did.
  12. I would say the earlier you book the better chance you have of getting the sailings you want and with hopefully a greater choice of cabin availability. I don't know if they will be cheaper at any point although I have my doubts
  13. Thanks for the replies. I have just heard from Brittany Ferries and it is a charity cruise organised by Wessex Heartbeat.
  14. I have just booked a trip to St Malo in November returning Saturday 16th. On the booking it says Les Abers will be very busy due to a private function, anyone know what this is? Many thanks
  15. I only have had to complain once to the Purser and this was resolved immediately and he couldn't apologise enough. I agree with the comment above and how they treat you often depends on how you approach them, going in all guns blazing does not always get the response you want as it can get their backs up. I also had to contact the customer service team due to an issue with a booking and I could not have asked for better service.
  16. Don't usual find too much problem with school parties as I tend to book a cabin. One occasion does send out though - it was a few years ago and I was on one of the outside decks on Normandie awaiting departure. There was a party of school girls running around when two came and stood next to me. One turned to her friend and said she felt sea sick. I thought there is no hope for her as at that point we were still alongside in Portsmouth!
  17. As a person who regularly travels alone I find it more convenient to take the ferry. I also find it more enjoyable. Although I can see how it would be different for different people. With regards to cost I am prepared to pay a little more to travel with bf than some of the other companies around. I do find a crossing with bf better than other companies I have travelled with
  18. I sailed on the Duchesse Anne a couple of times and found her quite comfortable, not up to the standard of Bretagne but in my opinion better than the ship she replaced- Prince of Brittnay
  19. I completely agree - would rather queue and get face to face service than using any self service check in. Also manually checking everyone in is an additional security measure
  20. Travelled to St Malo on the Bretagne and found she was still as great as ever. Boarding was a bit slow for us footies, of which there were quite a few, due to having to board via the garage. Think this was due to the berth Bretagne was on. Had received a text message from Bf advising of this so was prepared. Still we were on board well in advance of departure time. This time I had a commodore cabin which was very comfortable.Made use of the mini bar and fruit in the cabin, also managed one or two of the macaroons. Priority booking for Les Abers. Buffet was well stocked and excellent quality as per usual. I had the Monk Fish Oso Bucco style which was well presented and very tasty. Very pleasant crossing with hardly any movement. Wasn't sure what to expect for breakfast but there was more than enough and it was all fresh. Easy disembarkation in St Malo with only a cursory glance at passport by the immigration.
  21. Not sure what time you are travelling but I caught the 15.04 TGV from Morlaix to Paris last week and that stopped at Le Mans
  22. I don't have an issue with the £40 deposit. £100 deposit wouldn't work for all bookings, I have booked as a foot passenger to Caen and back and the total cost is only £80. A fixed percentage would be better, but as stated earlier £40 is reasonable.
  23. New names for me would be St. Malo, Dinan and Quimper
  24. For me it would have to be Mont St Michel and closely followed by Honfleur
  25. Can I throw something else into the mix Normandie to replace Etretat Unknown vessel to replace Bretagne Bretagne to replace Baie de Seine
