  1. Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne In Australia, over 80% of the sheep are pure Merino, producing heavy fleeces and excellent wool. The Australian Merino takes its name and general appearance from the Spanish Merino but has been highly developed and adapted to suit Australian conditions. The Merino has a strong herding instinct, is hardy and is not a fussy eater; all attributes that suit it to the large pastoral stations of Australia. Under less severe conditions, Merino ewes are crossed with meat breed sires to produce fat lambs. The first sheep went to Australia with the First Fleet in 1788 but these were used to supplement the rations. In 1979 more sheep were brought out from Cape Town and by 1801, Australia had over 33,000 sheep. Today there are around 80 million Merinos in Australia. No wonder the slogan for many years was that 'Australia Rides on the Sheep's Back'. Merino wool is classified into four main types superfine, fine, medium and strong. Each distinct type of wool suits particular climatic conditions. Ultrafine and fine medium grades also have their uses. The grading of the wool is done by measuring the diameter (in microns) of the fibre. The length of the staple varies according to the category of wool. Thus: Ultrafine wool is less than 17.5 microns. Superfine: 17.6 to 18.5 microns, staple length about 70mm Fine wool: less than 19.5 microns, staple length about 75mm Fine medium wool: 19.6 to 20.5 microns Medium wool: 20.6 to 22.5 microns, staple length about 90mm Strong wool: greater than 22.6 micron, staple length about 100mm Superfine Merino wool has an excellent colour, is soft to handle and dense. Fine wool is bright and dense. As for the mating habits, why do you think there are 80 million in Australia ?
  2. Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne (For Mersey Docks and Harbour Co please read http://www.peel.co.uk/ a much regarded major operator in the North West)
  3. Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne Thats one of the things that make them different to BF.
  4. Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne I have been told that the ex-master of Speed 1 is now the master (ex?) of NS. If as reported the crew of NS are going to to laid off, maybe there is an opening for him. On a very personall basis I do not like the LD policy of laying staff off whilst advertising for temporary crew elsewhere. :-# http://www.clydemarine.com/content/recruit/ldlines.asp
  5. Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne Fron Kent online "A spokeswoman confirmed on Monday (January 25) that a fourth launch date would be announced "very shortly" but claimed a "confidentiality agreement with working partners" prevented the company discussing the issue further." So is that is why BF have been so silent about where Barfleur is going, it all makes sense now!!!!
  6. Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne Apart from the unsuspecting public who parted with hard earned cash for bookings *-)?
  7. Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne Barfleur to Ramsgate? From the new ferry thread: "In addition, there are no plans to dispose of Barfleur – she is being withdrawn from Poole for future service with Brittany Ferries. It is alleged that she is due for a refit to remove some cabins/reclining seat lounges and increase vehicle capacity – whilst there is no official information on this, it is thought that a delegation from BF in Roscoff have visited the ports of Ramsgate and Dunkirk on a number of occasions in the past few weeks."

  15. Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne I remember reading this in the past, if you carry out a company search using the EUROFERRIES name you will see there are Four companies with the name in one form or another. Two are disolved and Two are still up and running, I guess that the two disolved are from that period and the latest ones are the current companies. They are all based at the same address.! This is in the public domain for instance here: http://www.ukdata.com/creditreports/companySearch.form?page=1 EUROFERRIES HOLDINGS LIMITED-Disolved EUROFERRIES SHIPPING LIMITED-Disolved EUROFERRIES EXPRESS LIMITED-Incorporation Date:27-02-2009 EUROFERRIES LIMITED-Last Accounts Filed up to:31-01-2009 I think that some of the claims that have been posted on other sites were based upon this information.
