PELICAN: Brittany Ferries launch new freight service between Poole and Bilbao

Recommended Posts

Passage times are 37 hours and 39 hours southbound, 31 hours and 39 hours northbound. (The fact that one of them is 31 hours means that there is clearly a lot of leeway with the others and one wonders if any of the longer passages will involve calls at Cherbourg or Roscoff? If the crew is not being provided by BF then I can't see why there would need to be a call into France for crew-change purposes, but there may be a market for increasing the France-Spain provision that CF is currently offering once a week.) Of course, as well as being a slow ship as previously highlighted, there will also be the issue that the ship would be likely to take the long route outside Ushant.

Although not crewed by BF, it is French crewed so guessing crew changes will be required, unless the crew are on longer on board contracts- quite possible considering the more exotic places the ship has been in more recent times on MOD charter

PELICAN has departed Marseilles, on sea trials.

Beat me to it....was just about to post that! So does that mean she has had some work done on her prior to entering service with BF? What has she had done that necessitates sea trials?

She was already in drydock 9 prior to BF's announcement. Possibly more to do with MN's ongoing maintenance rather than a BF specified job?

MN Pelican has now departed Gibraltar, destination Bilbao, with an ETA of 06:00 on Monday 9th February.

First sailing is on Thursday 11th February... given the weather disruption on the Iberian routes it could be busy start for her!
