National Ferry Fortnight 2016

Britain’s annual National Ferry Fortnight will take place between 5th – 19th March 2016. Now in its eighth year, the campaign, supported by the 12 members of Discover Ferries, the consumer-facing industry body for the ferry industry is a two week showcase of Britain’s extensive 75-plus ferry routes.

This year, National Ferry Fortnight urges consumers and their families to experience taking a ferry for the first time or indeed to “re-discover” the joys of ferry travel. Following on from the huge success of National Ferry Fortnight 2015 and the campaign theme of ‘Ferry Freedom’, Discover Ferries has adopted the theme of ‘Be a Ferry First-Timer’ for National Ferry Fortnight 2016.

This could be re-discovering a first childhood ferry experience, taking the family on a motoring holiday for the first time or discovering a new destination by ferry for the first time. Of course, when travelling by ferry with a car, there are no dreaded luggage limitations or surcharges, and once passengers disembark there is the freedom of exploring the new destination in the comfort of their own vehicles with the bonus option of bringing bicycles along for the ride. What’s more there is also the option to bring beloved pets aboard with ease.

Other key benefits of ferry travel range from the ability to move freely on-board, enjoy the quality cuisine and entertainment and shopping options – and lest we forget, the feeling of open-deck fresh air while enjoying the sea views, with the added bonus of potentially seeing marine wildlife such as whales or dolphins for the first time.

The ferry industry is on track to ship 39 million passengers in 2015 and ferry companies have invested millions in modern, versatile fleets and upgraded services. With spas, first-class lounges and fine dining restaurants on-board some ships, now is the time for passengers to jump on board and re-discover the new face of ferries or indeed experience ferry travel for the first time.

Without meaning to be morbid - but "Other key benefit of ferry travel" is that in an emergency you have the change to take your own decisions, get in a life boat, or even make a swim for it.... something I think that we all wish we had on a plane, where you chances and options are literally zero.
