How will they get her back on schedule? Plymouth again?

Looks like the Sunday night 36 hr crossing is now leaving Monday morning for a normal 24 hr crossing, presumably with a quick crew change in Roscoff on the way.

As you say the timetable now has her arriving 15.30 but still departing 10.30 in the morning. She is due into Plymouth on the next trip, so they might run late until then.

Where was the thing found? I'm with adicat - if there are major dredging works planned to prepare Portsmouth Harbour for the new carriers, there are going to be dozens of these things dug up. Expect this to be a regular occurrence over the next 12 months.

It was found at the North end of the harbour by the 'Stemat 87' crew. They have been the ones that have found most of these devices so far. The first carrier is due to arrive in May 2017 but dredging will be an ongoing operation for the foreseeable future.

You certainly picked your crossings, didn't you! I'm glad you got back OK despite the unpleasant conditions. Has it put you off cruising down there? Ed.

Yup, both crossings delayed by 90 mins, and both rough! We'll certainly sail again, but wish there was a more comprehensive timetable like there was with P&O (6 years ago?), that gets into Bilbao early enough for a day's drive down south, the only option at present is to get in on a tuesday which isn't much use for renting a villa that runs from sat to sat only.

Big storm today. 1 hours 30 delay for Etretat in Le Havre this morning, assisted by tugboats.

In shots like that I find it hard to believe she's longer than Pont Aven...

Can you not go from Portsmouth to Santander over night on a Friday and then find somewhere that offers Sunday to Sunday accommodation instead? I agree it is a little strange that even in high season there is nothing arriving early Saturday mornings but then that would mean leaving Friday morning and keeping people occupied for a whole day on board before a short night and an early arrival. It's the one time when the speed of the vessel is a disadvantage. Plus the freight requirements probably dictate the timetable more than the passengers do. Ed

We've explored all the options, Santander is even further to drive from, and the timings just don't work for us.

In 2010 (and before) we did P&O Pride of Bilbao on a Thur night, sailing at 21.15 and getting to Bilbao at 08.00 on Sat.........that was ideal, and we miss that conveniently timed sailing.

It's a similar picture with flights since the '08 financial crash; less choice and some routes and companies gone altogether. At least we can still do our favourite Fri night crossing to Caen, and with an early start drive down to the Alps or Provence..........................for now!

BF holidays do Spanish Casa holidays to coincide with the sailings.

Yeh, thanks for that, but we've looked into it before, they only offer 4-5 regions, all in north or north western Spain. We'll probably try it some time though, as we've been meaning to visit the Picos de Europa for some years!
