Newbuild Freight Ferry for Red Funnel - Red Kestrel

Can still pick a pilot up at the East Lepe, I don’t see why on a shortened tow she couldn’t come in via the Needles

Tidal stream would be against her given projected ETA. It can get a bit bumpy in the Needles Channel as I know from experience. One must assume that those responsible are professionals and know what they are doing.

Photo 2: typical! You call your ferry Red Kestrel and another bird comes along and craps all over your nice paintwork. Ed.

Obviously all depends on the weather on the day I guess.  The weather doesn’t look great for the next few days.

Southampton VTS still saying Wednesday (PM) but AIS on 'Willpower' saying Thursday at 06:00 #Confusing

Probably because they haven't been updated of the arrival by Red Funnel/Williams.

Ah yes but the red kestrel is coming in  at 2 am so that should be interesting 😂

That's just it, Willpower is towing the Red Kestrel. A comment on the Red Funnel Enthusiasts Group on Facebook by a crew member on board said it will be 08:00.

Still via the Needles but I expect it will change again.

Changed again!

So is it coming in via Needles? If it comes via NAB should be able to see it from Southsea (assuming around 1hr and a bit from Ryde region to Southampton) so 6-ish

You'll see it often enough once it enters service, I should think they will work it quite hard.

If you can't get out to see her arrive, why not just screw up your eyes and squint at any other Red Funnel ferry. It probably produces the same result. Plus it gives that realistic 'emerging from the fog' effect. Ed.
