New scam linked to 2012 Linkedin data breach

Recommended Posts

Just a warning to anybody who has been using LinkedIn for any length of time that a new sextortion email scam is circulating using - in an effort to convince the unwary - password and email data harvested in the Linkedin 2012 data breach. Apparently this data has surfaced again for sale in the usual quarters. The giveaway is that it will be an old password that you will have changed following the breach. Usual advice.

The different security sites are showing pretty much the same email content with differing amounts of BTC demanded. Data may also have been harvested from Tumblr apparently. It's all old data I think which has found a buyer. The Linkedin breach was scandalous but they didn't do much about it at the time iirc.
