Ferry on fire in Batic Sea

Recommended Posts

Reports coming in from the Lithuanian military that a ferry with 335 passengers on board is on fire in the Baltic.  No other information at present.

Main ferry port in Lithuania is, of course, Klaipeda.  Don’t know how far Lithuanian waters extend into the main Baltic - Gulf of Finland through-routes.  So you’d think this would be likely to be a ferry that sails out of Klaipeda. (?)

Ferry is apparently Danish.  That’s got to be DFDS.

Edit:  Just seen Tony’s link.  Identifies the ferry as Regina Seaways and reports an explosion.

Worth noting, the fire is out but engines have been shutdown. Currently waiting on rescue. The ferry will be towed to Klaipeda.

Latest: A Spokesperson for DFDS has denied there was any kind of explosion. “To clarify, there was no explosion. Simply put, there are vibrations in the engine compartment and smoke appeared"

Where did they get that line from? It sounds like something from a Roald Dahl novel about a farting Scandinavian troll. 😀 Ed.

Is that not the old Rosyth ferry that stopped doing the route after catching fire?

Don't think so, AFAIK the only one of this class which has been to the UK is the Corragio when covering for Stena at Killingholme.

Thanks for all the updates Tony.  Sounds like it was well handled and a potential crisis averted.

DFDS not having much luck with fires on ferries on this route, are they.
