New BF Website

Didn't realise BF were having so many problems on their "improved" site. This is  a copy of my email to them yesterday.

After 4 attempts to book a ferry crossing I'm losing the will to live! I am a Club Voyage member (******) and have booked with you for many years.

However, today I even got as far as entering my credit card number and on entering I finished up back on "What route do you want"

Similarly on another attempt entered date of crossing and guess what?

Third time as far as cabin requirements, entered and guess where I ended up?

Last attempt and I got as far as my car registration number. No prizes for where I ended up.

What is happening on your site?

Ray Wild

Tried again this afternoon and still the same. Still I've got until September to sort it out!

I think that it is easy for the site to get confused with previous entries. It may be worth trying it using the private / incognito option on the browser which doesn't suffer from this.

The inadequacies of the new site are well documented here.  The only people who seem to think it is an improvement on its predecessor are BF developers and employees.

Yesterday I needed to change a booking for next week, short notice, two people travelling instead of three, and change of car. The "manage my booking" simply couldn't handle it and I had to do it all by telephone. That was fine, but the pleasant young lady at the other end did venture to comment that they had received a number of adverse comments about the new website.

And people using mobiles Gareth... the general site I find FAR better on a mobile than before (not just booking, but all of it).

Well, it’s not as if they put up the new website oblivious to the criticism it was going to receive.  They tested it out on us, invited our feedback, received loads (all of it constructive) and then ignored most of it.

Easiest way of giving feedback seems to be voting with our fingers and making bookings by phone only.

I managed the last couple of bookings ok with the new site, however when I modified an existing booking by adding 2 more passengers to a car crossing, the fare was recalculated to show the car at the current higher price. When I queried this as a DM it was immediately corrected and I was told that when a change is made via the call centre they would adjust that automatically - however that just highlights the clunky booking system that the new web system sits on top of.

I use the freight site to look at timetables - it is simpler to navigate.

Fair point, thanks for making it.

I'll elaborate. The broken website puts more pressure on the call centre staff, as people struggle to make bookings on it, and then call instead. I think the new website still has potential once the problems are ironed out.

But has anyone got an iron and ironing board?

I think a pair of hair straighteners would do at this point.

As this thread is titled New BF Website, how can the powers that be accept on the live sailing updates page...

1) the wrong (old) logo and 2) the Pont Aven still shown at Brest days after she left there ?

I know the live map is frequently rubbished here and quite rightly.

Did anyone spot Armorique  on her visit to Falaise the other day doing 1,896 knots ?Armorique.thumb.png.6f1e1d8d69f0b62999d843adf82e09f5.png

The logo + re-branding of things seems to be being done in phases. I presume seeing this is a 3rd party service from the URL, it must be lower down the list.
PA has been screwed for a while on there during her troubles.
And 1896 knots? Well I did say ARM was faster than PA and CF 😉 Ohh - she seems to have learnt to fly too.... either that, or she is on the back of a well-big low loader!:) Maybe it's a joint venture with Airbus... something to do with all those spare A380 wings which be laying around!

To be fair (and I am one of the most vocal critics of the new website and the new fleet tracker), the spurious ship information is nothing to do with the website.  It happened occasionally with the old website too.  It is to do with blips in the AIS data received from the ships.  With the system relying on real-time data transmitted by satellite from ships out at sea, it is understandable that there are occasional anomolies when the data received from them gets broken or corrupted for some reason (that is probably to do with environmental conditions).

Think the BF  website might be having a minor update of some sort, on the ship locator Pont Aven has changed colour from yellow to a bright blue, so might be adding Connemarra, Kerry and Honfleur?
