possible visa problems looming

Recommended Posts

Sabre rattling by Spain, again. Their minority Government collapsed 2 weeks ago and another General election called for April.Bashing Gib is always a good election tactic hence this nonsense. Behind the scenes the rest of the EU are horrified by the proposal for visas, it has no support at all and after allowing a reasonable time for electioneering, the Spanish will be dragged back into line much to the relief of pretty much everyone else.

The big question would be...`Are the Spanish stupid enough to deter their biggest customer for their tourist industry ??`..The answer is yes. If they thought they could re capture Gibraltar they would happily return to a seige economy and watch over declining wealth and health. Yes they are that dumb!!

Agree with Paully.  There is no appetite in EU27 to require UK tourists to have visas, as long as reciprocal arrangements continue.

Gibraltar?  Past behaviour by Spain would suggest that periodic border closures and incursions into territorial waters by fishing and naval vessels can be expected.

Unfortunately it's always been a successful tactic. People are naturally attracted to an emotive cause even if common sense says they are worse off for it. How often have we heard here about the "price worth paying" or "taking back control".

At worst I'd expect an Esta style system, as the EU is set on implementing that for many countries outside of the EU, We'd have to seriously burn all good will to get anything less.
