Oscar Wilde - Sale

Recommended Posts

Not a fan of the GNV livery. Obviously the logo is very blue but it leaves the rest of the ship looking very bare. It works better on the newer ships. But I could also say that about the new BF livery 😂

I wonder if BF could borrow her for a few weeks.

No, but they could borrow Rhapsody for a time rather than having her tied to the quay at Marseilles while they decide what they're ultimately going to do with her. I don't think she's moved for a couple of months now.

How long will it take to get the scent of Guinness out of the carpet .

It might have been a scent in the relatively cool climate of Ireland but it'll have been be a whiff as it reached the Bay of Biscay, a pong as it went through the Straits of Gibraltar and a stench when it meets the summer heat in Genoa.

As an aside, according to Marine Traffic her AIS is still showing Oscar Wilde.

I was wondering how IF would cover the Isle of Inishmore after selling the OW, well some news, at 0600 on 13th Oct the WB Yates will berth at Pembroke Ferry Terminal (PDFT) and sail at 0900, this is presumably for berthing trials.

For the last couple of weeks there has been a Master from Dublin onboard the Isle or Inishmore doing trips to the berth.

GNV Allegra, as she is now called, has Cherbourg as her destination on AIS. Currently sat in Genoa...

Maybe she's homesick?

Seems the AIS was last updated at the end of September, so maybe not current...but on the other hand we could speculate that BF are taking her on charter to replace a Visintini??..🤔

Her next scheduled sailing is from  Genoa to Olbia on the 23rd May so she's available for a winter charter if anyone would think her suitable. The most she's likely to be used for in this period is as an accommodation ship.

WB Yeats is now rostered to cover the Isle of Inishmore from Saturday 15th February until Monday 23rd March, so the Inishmore is having a lengthy refit. I wonder if she'll be having scrubbers fitted....

Some pictures of a trip on her in September if anyone's interested - she's largely unchanged from her Oscar Wilde phase.

I hadn't realised Irish Ferries had gone to the trouble of actually welding the letters on when they acquired her from Color Line. Clearly the new owners aren't bothered about removing them...🙄

They might do it at the next refit as she didn't have that long before entering service this year.

Neither IF, GNV or Color Line have bothered trying to scrape this off the bow - it's the coat of arms of Sandefjord which was the home town of Anders Jahre, founder of her original owners Jahre Line.

Presumably it's just simpler to wait until the Italians crash her into something else (and being Italians they inevitably will sooner or later) and then just replace the entire bow. Ed.

Yes, I spoke to one of the shoreside security guys last week and he said the WBY would be covering the Inishmore, she fitted the linkspan in Pembroke ok, not perfect but surprisingly better than the OW did. If I find out anymore when I’m back up there in a couple of weeks I’ll post it.
