Wightlink to introduce priority boarding

Recommended Posts

Why don't they sort normal boarding out first. Sounds like more chaos and delays getting into terminal and correct lanes.  Everyone wants to grab your money. Airlines do this and everyone books it so you waste your money. I wish they would focus their attention on customer service rather than gimicks. Next it will be superior seating on board for a few more quid. Expensive enough as it is. Go on first and pay for it only to end up on a mezz. So basically expensive way to get your coffee first.

Not really about the thread but did not want to start a new one for this, so will twist it to fit. :P

There seems less people boarding as looked at tomorrow's availability and normally you would get nothing until the evening during Summer holidays Saturday. Only 4 sailings full. Even 1000 still has space. Return wise only 2 sailings fully booked. Mondays seems busier than Saturdays.

I can remember years ago when they'd be double decking at 5 am on Saturdays - and going back even further when they'd have all 4 of the older ships running half-hourly through the night on a Friday.  Things ain't what they used to be... and considering the prices, I can understand why!!

I really don't see what special advantage priority boarding brings on such relatively small ferries. A few minutes perhaps but nothing more.

Having travelled this week on a mid week day trip the vessel was half empty on the 11:00 outward and 18:00 return sailings. The fare at £54 return with 20% discount was just about tolerable but a £40 day excursion would  probably fill the ship and produce more income.

On Monday with St Clare 1200 P-F cancelled, there was 1 car for 1230 priority boarding. The £10 was worth it for this, as they got on first before the delayed 1200 cars were boarded. So their gain meant 1 car booked on 1200 (which would have been the last car on had priority not got on) would be pushed back to 1300. It was a large bit of paper in windscreen saying 1230 Priority Boarding so could have caused a few complaints from 1200 passengers.

So does PB mean guaranteed booking as well.

Looks like an own goal! Messes up the deck 9fficers loading forcing him to take the PB first. This does not make for the best fit and so card that ate boomed being left off as space wasted. Coffee vouchers being given out like confetti so gain £10 lose £5/£10 In coffee sales and bad customer experience. Can't see it lasting.

Not sure this has worked as never see many cars in a lane for priority boarding. Looks like Christmas is quiet at Wightlink as only sailings full so far from Sat-Tues are Mon 1200 1320. Looks like Wight Sun only doing 0920 1320. Didn't lo9k as far as 1720.
