Commissaire ?

Recommended Posts

We stayed for three days this week at a top notch Chambre  d'Hote near Lannion owned by a man retired after many years with B/F as a commissaire - he said he was involved from the very beginning of the building of Pont Aven.  But commissaire? My dictionary says steward, quartermaster or commissioner. What was he please? Give me the answer and I will pass on the address by PM to anyone who wants to stay at a house with higher standards than any hotel we have ever been to - he offers art, style, design and elegance of a very high order indeed.

Yes, Purser is the correct term. Responds directly to the Commandant for all hospitality services. We are lucky enough to know and to have known quite a few. Often start as waiters or hostesses, move on to manage restaurant, self service or housekeeping, before achieving this rank. The highest possible for non navigation personnel.
