Red Eagle "loses" anchor

Recommended Posts

Apparently the Red Eagle "lost" one of her anchors this morning - it fell off (!) as the vessel approached Cowes just before 10 AM.  The ship is now out of service while her hull is inspected for damage alongside in Southampton.  The Island echo website has more on this story

Difficult to understand how an anchor can 'fall off'. The whole point of it is that it remains firmly connected to the ship in all circumstances! It will be interesting to hear what the explanation is. No doubt in the meantime efforts will be made to recover it.

I wonder if it was just the anchor or was it the cable as well, that noise in the video sounds like the cable running out. If it was and it’s all lost meant that the “bitter” end wasn’t secured.  See that done few times.

Often seems an exciting ride with these guys..running aground in the harbour and sinking the vicars yacht, banging into another one on the way over and now losing the anchor...The other lot seem to have a penchant for cancellations in between exploding engines 🤣😂

Makes BF crossings seem very tame indeed..........thankfully

Well it looks like the red eagles gear linkage in one of her voith props has been damaged when the anchor came off so she is out of service now for repairs which could be quite a while

Exactly what I was thinking whilst watching the video. You could see they didn't really have control of the bow, clearly trying to avoid using the forward unit whilst the anchor was out of control.
