Fastnet Race 2021 will finish in Cherbourg

Recommended Posts

The Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) have today announced that the Fastnet race will finish in Cherbourg in 2021 and 2023. Options still open for a Plymouth revival for 2025 centenary race.

Plymouth has failed to come up with solutions for welcoming over 300 boats. The last few races have seen the race village (pathetic) at the Yacht Haven over at Mountbatten. Most arriving boats get berthed there, but very few stay as the atmosphere is morbid and the logistics poor. Cherbourg can accommodate the fleet bang in the centre of town, using in part the Chantereyne marina and in part the old harbour. A full on race village is promised.

Lots of grumbles. Quite a few smiles too. Most class winners have been French in recent years. Concern about availability and cost of transport back to UK for those not sailing back. Opportunity for some great PR for BF, and maybe even a synergy with the Condor fleet?

Wonder if my surgeon will let me make a comeback?
