On the subject of whether things will change. Personally I would like to more see public information on personal hygiene, and ways to avoid infection of any kind. Even before Covid, I have always been amazed at the lack of simple hygiene in individuals who thought perfectly acceptable to come to work with flu or a stinking cold and infect everyone else, not taking even the simplest of precautions such stay away, wash hands or at least cough/sneeze into a handky. Personally I always walk in the opposite direction, and hold my breath if I hear someone cough or sneeze in work, supermarket or even on a Brittany Ferries. I didn't want their germs then, and don't want them now. I am happy to be accused of being paranoiac, but at least I have stayed mainly infection free. How about a governement education program on basic hygiene.

This video may be of interest as it explains how the cruise industry is tackling the buffet issue to get people back on board ASAP. Apparently most cruise lines can still be profitable with 50% loadings so the food offering will be able to cope with the required changes. The guy on the video, Danny Harr, is an LA-based cruise specialist. He's one of those annoyingly-cheerful Americans and obviously is speaking to, and trying to reasure, his customers but does seem to know his stuff. Ed

We all saw a few weeks ago the signs up at the Scottish and Welsh borders telling English visitors to follow the rules and, quite rightly, stay away from beauty spots. I wonder whether, when the English shops reopen on Monday, similar signs will appear in Carlisle, Berwick, Chester and Shrewsbury etc asking the Scots and Welsh not to come shopping. Ed

President Macron and a whole host of his advisors and bodyguards etc will presumably be entering 14 days of quarantine when they arrive in London next week.

They are classed as excempt apparently.

Presumably he just has to pick one cherry from a tree in the garden at Clarence House and he'll be classed as an essential agricultural worker.

Biggest fear for me at the moment is the prediction that we are going to have a second wave over winter - end up in back in lockdown all over again for next winter, and have everything like this all over again :/

I don’t think we will get a second wave.  Maybe pockets of it, but think they are preparing for this by having local lockdowns in the case of flare ups, cannot see a repeat of this again.  I am being pragmatic about it, my worry is of any more austerity, although Johnson has said no to this, he could U turn.

Last night's speech from the Great Leader (no the other one) didn't include masses of new detail.

Aside from the fact that all primary and secondary schools should be open from Monday 22 July for the final two weeks of the summer term (and he clearly hasn't consulted my friend Anne-Sophie in the Parisian suburbs on that one) the rest of the speech concerned his strategy for economic recovery.

The news about European borders reopening had mostly already been released but I can't actually find a map showing exactly what is open and what's not. I suspect more will filter out during the week.

Finally he defended the role of the police in light of current criticism and also prommised that France would not be rewriting its history and would certainly not be unbolting any of its statues (at least until the national WD-40 shortage is resolved I imagine).

WD-40 Shortage? Truly we are doomed (LeClerc do a decent spray lubricant that works well if you are bothered by an infestation of statuary)

Dang, how do I remove multiple posts?

My local hardware store was out of stock last Friday. It's either due to everyone dusting off their old bikes to avoid public transport or the fact that the Presidental plane, Sarko-One, needs to be dragged out of its hanger and made ready for President Macron's trip to London on Thursday. Ed

If they don't plan to roll out the flu vaccination campaign properly a second wave of this inconvenience will be the least of their worries. All they have managed to do is protect the health service at the expense of herd immunity it seems to me. I know it wasn't much of a choice and I'm glad it wasn't me that had to make it - but it was nevertheless a choice between two evils. I think that will sadly be forgotten. It should be addressed.

Arcadia went off to Torquay yesterday, thought she was anchoring off there, but she is back again this morning.  Wonder why that was.  Wish those two could do day cruises while they are there.  Tender boats were out to both yesterday morning, and I know it is pie in the sky, but would be great to do a cruise to Cornwall and back if it was possible.   Use tender boats to get a limited numbers of passengers on board.

Pie in the sky and me overthinking...😉

A Cantabria update.

The region will open it's border to the Basque Country on Friday.

Another piece in the puzzle as travellers can now pass through to Asturias rather than drive around through Burgos, Palencia & Leon.

Self distancing will remain at 1.5m in conjunction with mandatory use of face masks.
