cvabishop
A short break at this hotel with a view like that might well be worth considering. Nice breakfast too by the look of it.

With paddle steamers coming across from Portsmouth and Southsea. Oh, childhood and youthful memories.
cvabishop
Quote What a shame that this technology didn't exist in the mid 20th century when Adams tanks would have been running up and down the pier together with the tram. With paddle steamers coming across from Portsmouth and Southsea. Oh, childhood and youthful memories. Plus of course all the ocean liners passing in and out of Southampton. I remember seeing some of them framed between the buildings looking down Ryde High street as they passed. They looked huge, and they were. The old Queen Mary actually displaced more than the current Queen Mary 2 although their gross(capacity) tonnages were very different. Taken in conjunction with Marine Traffic, it should be possible to anticipate and watch cruise ship movements as they visit Southampton on their regular calls while anchoring off the Dorset coast. (Plus of course the BF ships although they will be further away).
TonyMWeaver
Believe it or not, this webcam has been up and running for quite sometime and has periodically been appearing on YouTube on and off for a few weeks along with a second camera. There are 2 cameras in total at the same location. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34YMtblpGaE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkmhN7P8U-4
Hermit
COVID restrictions mean that railway enthusiasts hoping to have a last ride on the 1938 tube stock can’t (or at least shouldn’t) travel to the island. This webcam will be the next best thing for them.
TonyMWeaver
There is also a new Webcam in Southampton, overlooking the Red Funnel Terminal. It went live around 2 weeks ago but seems temperamental. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS_goZ7B4_s 1

Thought it was far fetched as it cost a lot to get a passenger cert ..and can’t see it being profitable

Is that official, as they did not confirm nor deny in a recent news article?
adicat
Thought she was doomed a failure for the route in the end. There must be a reason why they have not managed to sell her. Have they built anymore like her?
