Victoria is the new ferry of the Tallink company which will be brought into service on April 1,2004 on the line Stockholm - Tallinn.

*Here news of Victoria:

09/03/2004 From : http://www.tallink.ee/ee.html:

The new Stockholm – Tallinn cruise ferry:

Aker Finnyards newbuilding No. 434, MS Victoria I was delivered on March 9, 2004.

The cruise ferry is the second brand new vessel ordered by Tallink Grupp AS from Aker Finnyards.

The vessel is a sistership to Estonia´s biggest cruise ferry Romantika, delivered for Tallink by Aker Finnyards in May 2002.

The Victoria has a capacity of 2,500 passengers, 740 cabins and 1,000 lane metres of vehicle deck space. Compared to the Romantika, the interior design of bars and restaurants has been changed, and the number of luxury-class cabins and suites has been increased. Over 400 people can be seated in the future conference area with the largest room for 250, which should meet the requirements of even the most demanding customers.

The vessel has a length of 193 metres, a beam of 29 metres and gross tonnage of 40,000. Propulsion by four diesel engines totalling 26,240 kW will provide a service speed of 22 knots. The catalytic reduction units installed for better control of exhaust emissions make the vessel most environmentally friendly.

The Tallink group is the biggest shipping company in Estonia according to sales. Its main field of activities is passenger and goods conveyance. Tallink is a clear market leader in the passenger and freight transport between as well Estonia and Finland as Estonia and Sweden.

On the 1st of April Tallink will open a new route from Helsinki via Tallinn to St. Petersburg.

Re:Victoria

The Romantika is on the Helsinki route for the moment. When they both operate to Stockholm then the new ship brings the advantage of a balanced schedule of ships which can easily compete with the Stockholm Helsinki route in terms of on board facilities. I wish Tallink every success.

Re:Victoria

Good luck to Tallink yes, and for many years they have been known as the cheap estonian company with cheap and low-quality ships but cheap prices also to drink your head full. It seems, and it´s good so, that they are getting higher standard, and now, after been onboard Romantika, I can say it is so, that they really can compete easily with Viking Line and Silja Line.

Re:Victoria

Cornelia,

The company Tallink can compete with Silja Line and Viking Line by putting Romantika on the Stockholm - Tallinn line.

I am not sure whether this comment will be regarded as senseless or not, but I know that Romantika and Victoria can compete with Silja. They are doing that already also on the route to Tallinn. Silja Line has the superseacat on that line plus doing cruises by using Finnjet (which will stop this summer). Unlike years ago when Tallink was known for cheap, secondhand ships and Silja and Viking for new and luxurious now, it seems it´s the other way around now.
