Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne

i've just run a few dummy bookings and get the following message if i try booking before the 18th march:

the return crossings on the 18th vary from £49.00-£69.50 for a day trip

the best bit of their booking webpage it lets you reserve 10 seats in 1st class lounge even though i specified only 1 person traveling!!!

Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne

Well there are two laid up at Tilbury...

Presumably, the vessels' owners must employ a skeleton staff to fire up the engines and so on?

Which two, Sea Leopard and?

Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne

Its not too small to make a start!! anything is better than nothing! I am sure the charter rate would be VERY favourable,

But in reality it will be the if at all Speedone

They have sold this on the coaches, so the Emeraude is too small to fulfill their promises.

But could Speed One even accept coaches though? I thought they were mainly the really big InCats, and even then, as the Norman Arrow showed when it took Lorries, it serioulsy affects the vessels performance

Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne

An empty single decker coach weighs about 12 tonnes, an fully laden artic lorry about 40 tonnes!

Coaches can fit at the back of Speed One as far as I am aware.

The Emeraude has been at Tilbury so long, if you look at Google earth and zoom in she is there, complete with Emeraude livery, clear to see.

Emeraude cannot convey coaches, but it might make a reasonable car/foot passenger vessel. I winder what condition she is in? Looks ok from Google earth!

We've covered this before - 4 coaches but they have to reverse in or off !

Look at some photos on ferry-site and you'll see how difficult it will be.

Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne

I was on one of the EMERAUDE FRANCE's final Steam Packet sailings in 2007 and she wasn't too bad internally but she has been out of action a long time and it might take quite a lot of work to get her back in service.

Not sure what happened to her planning conversion to a floating gin palace...

Marine Traffic AIS - comes and goes with regard to laid up vessels, today I didn't pick up SL once, but had she moved we would know.

Honestly, the sooner this lot get going the better, the sooner they will ........

Make your own minds as to the final words.

Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne

Here's something interesting ..... apologies for google translate, but you'll get the idea..... it is about the Gare Maritime, have a look at the article to see the architects drawings.

Great comment about the cross-channel services being only footies ....

From the marina, a few cross-Channel link, shopping and culture, all financed largely by the private, the mayor said his vision of the ferry terminal and the site of the Spur. A site programmed in 20 years

Of course, a visit to the ferry terminal, a few weeks before elections, is not trivial.

She at least has the merit of raising a little more light on the future of the site vacant for years, at least on what want to do local and regional (the port is, remember, now owned by Region).

"This site of the Spur will become the hinge of a major port city," predicted the deputy mayor Frédéric Cuvillier, taking care to specify that there is a site that will be spread "on fifteen or twenty years. "

Plaisance

and Channel

The architect responsible for imagining the future center, Pierre-Louis Carlier came to present an outline of the project model in hand.

Ambitious, to say the least. The ferry terminal, a large part of the buildings would be preserved, and should become a large area dedicated to tourism and culture. It contains shops, a hotel, cinema, places of cultural and artistic expression, but also housing. Around it is the craft that is privileged, with 200 to 300 slips further.

Exit the Channel in the outer harbor? "No, Frédéric Cuvillier grade, but only for traffic" pedestrian ", why not with Folkestone. Or for short cruises. The municipality is working on these issues for some time. "The Channel as we currently have at Boulogne, it is not tourism," says the transition to elected Boulogne. The Chamber of Commerce appreciate ... As for the region, anxious not to offend the neighbors Calais on this thorny subject, it is agreed that if traffic is limited exclusively to passenger, recognizing that Boulogne has historical rights on the Transmanche.

The future is all supposed to dovetail with the Republic Square (casino) on one side, Nausicaa of the other. A pedestrian bridge connecting the removable tip of the Spur near the center of the sea is also planned.

Who will finance all this? "To a large extent, the private sector, provides the mayor. Three investors are already interested. He is also the question of land, which could quickly become a real headache. Because the land belongs to the region, conceded that the Board of Trade, which itself is poised to merge with its counterpart Calais ... "Legally, it does not pose any particular difficulties. The Region is ready to (editor's note: the municipality of Boulogne) return the land to tell you, "says Daniel Percheron. Who hastens to add, however: "For the Spur, it must be given a single destination

Re: EUROFERRIES: Ramsgate to Boulogne

Does anyone know and approximate time scale for a new operator to get their MCA/Affaires Maritime certificate to sail? I'm assuming not just on board but ashore as well, things like emergency procedures.

Well one of the issues is who is managing the craft....

If Euroferries charter a craft that comes with crew and ship management this will be easier than a fresh company starting up....

Whatever way, despite reliable stories of negotiations going on for a ship I cannot see them being active anytime soon...
